Obituary for Pearline Powell

Pearline Powell was born on June 12, 1948 to David and Josephine Carter. She was the eldest of 10 children. Father, David Carter, Sr., five brothers Bishop Luther Carter, Willie Carter, Kenneth Carter, Anthony Carter, Leroy Criss and step-son John Player all preceded her in death.

Pearl attended Hess Upper Grade Center on the West side of Chicago.

Pearline (Pearl ) Worked in the Culinary Industry; She worked for various companies as Chef, Cook, etc., Holiday Inn, Fred Harvey Restaurant and Walter Memorial Hospital to name a few. She worked for the Board of Education; after working many years, Pearl retired from Dirksen School where she worked as their lunch room cook and her students LOVED her butter cookies. Pearl was a hard working woman even until the end.

Pearl loved being around her family and friends creating precious memories! Her passion was cooking. Pearl really loved to cook! She enjoyed watching the look on someone’s face when they tasted her food. Whenever there was an event going on, you can bet Pearl was doing the cooking. Pearl was loved and respected by many. She was blessed to have true friends Gladys, Tommie, Judy, Osborne and many others; and very close cousins (Helen and Joyce).

Pearl accepted Christ as her personal savior and attended Mars Hill Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Clarence E. Stowers, Sr. Later she joined Jordan Temple Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Stephen Richardson where she loved singing in the Choir. Pearl was a caring soul always willing to do and care for others

Pearl married her childhood sweetheart Tommy Williams (1964) and through this union one daughter Carolyn was born.

Pearl loved and cherished her four angels (Carolyn-daughter, Earnest Jr.-grandson/best friend and shatora, great granddaughter/best friend) and her special son-in-law Earnest Nelson Sr.

In June 1996 James and Pearl were united in holy matrimony and were married 23 years.

On November 4, 2019 Pearline took her trip to a place prepared just for her, a special place where she’ll live eternally; she’s gone away to be with the Lord!

Pearl leaves to cherish her memory, her Husband James Powell, her mother Josephine Foster, step-mother Alice Besler, daughter Carolyn Nelson (Earnest, Sr.), four step-children Cathleen (Donald), Sabrina (Ron), Shawn , and Gary (Rindi), one grandson Earnest, Jr., thirteen step-grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, ten brothers; David Carter Jr., Michael Carter, Tyrone Carter, Oscar Stell (Gwendolyn), Dennis Ray Carter (Wilma), Johnny Lee Carter, Jeffery Carter (Christine), Antonio Carter (Nikki), Christopher Carter and D’Angelo Carter. Six sisters; Mary Quinn, Linda Carter, Lulla Criss-Pugh, Louise Carter, Lela Mae Eastman, Eula Bee Carter (Jeffery); a special friend Delores Jefferson; Spiritual Father Deacon Bentley (Pops); A host of Aunts, Uncles, Nephews, Nieces, Great Nephews, Great Nieces, relatives, Cousins and friends.
