Obituary for Melvin L. Conway

The Life Reflection Of…

Melvin L. (Stretch) Conway was born into this life on September 13, 1962, in Topeka, KS, the son of the late Lonnie L.and Mary Conway.

On later years Melvin relocated to Chicago, Illinois alone with his mother Mary, sister Lorraine and brother Calvin, and with the passing of Melvin’s mother Mary. Melvin and his siblings were left in the caring hands of the Late Jessie and Mildred Boose(Uncle/Aunt) and as Melvin grew up he also had his Uncle Theodis that cared for him throughout his youth.

Melvin received Christ at an early age and while attending Fillmore Christian House of Prayer under the leadership of Rev. E. Perry.

Melvin led an exciting and varied life. Melvin attended Leif Ericson Elementary School and Manley High School. Melvin attended Malcolm X College where he then received a college scholarship for Basketball with the University of Tulsa located in Oklahoma – The Golden Hurricanes!

Melvin received all kinds of Honors, Certificates, Awards and Trophies while playing Basketball. Melvin met and married the love of his life Angela Raggs. With this union on child was born.

Melvin took a great deal of pride In caring for his family. Melvin loved playing Basketball, pool and having parties. Melvin started the tradition of having parties and his kids are taking on his legacy by name the orgin “Club 1247”.

Melvin worked with CTA. Melvin became a certified Diesel Mechanic and was employed by Blue Bird Bus Company, Melvin had lots of intended ideas in what he wanted to do in life and one of those dreams was to be an Entrepreneur, Melvin started his own business from home and it was called Defense Carpet Cleaning. Melvin’s dream was to franchise the company and his dream became a reality when it was franchised through Service Master. Melvin received his license of Ministry in 2020.

Melvin made his transition on October 27, 2022 at the age of 60, Proceeding him in death are his parents: Lonnie / Mary Conway, Mildred/Jessie Boose, Grandmother: Gracie Bankston, one sister: Jerdiemae Conway, two aunts: Joretha Pryor and Ethel Henderson, two uncles: Willie Parker and Harold Bankston, Special cousin/sister Gloria Ann Bankston.

Melvin leaves to cherish his memory: six daughters: Shaquita S. Conway, Latisha Williams, Ebony S. Conway, Jasmyne Smith, Kamel Conway and Renata G. Raggs. four grand-children: Angel A. Davis, Rafeael A. Davis, Kalii Thigpen and Renita D. States, one son: Matrix Conway, one special nephew, Jamelle Olagbegi, a special bond (ex-wife) Angela Raggs, seven sisters: Lorraine Conway, Betty Hunt, Essie Conway, Glenda Conway, Paula Brooks, Valerie Bankston and Audrey Campbell, four brothers: Calvin Conway, Albert L. Conway, Walter Tidwell and Blannie Folks, Three aunts: Odell Almond, Esther Curry, Bessie Buford, Two Uncles: Theodis Bankston, James D. Croom, special Uncle: Glennis Buford, Godsister: Catrina Singletary, Best Friend: Brian Sanders, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
