Obituary for Kurtis Anthony Garrett

Kurtis Anthony Garrett was born on October 31, 1982 in Chicago, Illinois to Kurt and Vernice
Jones. Kurtis accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Grace Apostolic
Church. Kurtis attended James McCosh Elementary School and Graduated to Paul Robeson
High School. Kurtis began to cut hair at the young age of 12 years old and later became a
professional barber by the age of 18. He was the neighborhood barber and would eventually
keep his loyal clientele from childhood to adulthood.
Kurtis was very loving, funny, Kind-hearted, talented and extremely creative. In his teen years,
Kurtis was a part of a local rap group where he completed an album and was able to tour with
other artists. These were many of Kurtis' creative endeavors that showed his love for music and
his craft. He loved with a big heart and embraced those around him with his warm smile and
gentle love. Kurtis was admired and loved by his beautiful children, family and friends.
Kurtis was called home on December 3, 2021. Kurtis leaves to mourn: his mother and father,
Vernice and Kurt Jones, one grandmother, Katie Garrett; his five beautiful children, Kurtis
Garrett Jr, Samone Pilgrims, Kyree Garrett, Kristian Garrett and Kiara Garrett. Three brothers
Larone Walker (Ladonna), Jeremiah Garrett and London Weekly. Three Sisters, Tiana Blakely
(Marlon) Krystal Young (Richard) and Paris Weekly. Nine Uncles, Lamont Jones, Willie Wright,
Hollis Penn, AG Garrett Jr. Joe Garrett, Melvin Garrett (Deborah) Roy Garrett, Greg Garrett
(Sandra) and Clark Garrett. Four Aunts; Marie Thomas, Donita Penn, Mary Robeson, and Iris
Crump and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, family and friends.
His grandfather's AG, Willie, grandmother Willa Uncles Ronnie, Bernard, Willie and aunts
Lela,Bernice and Nicole preceded him in death.
