Obituary for Gus Anderson

Gus ( The Gentle Giant ) born October 11, 1941 in Greenwood Mississippi. Gus was the 7th born child of
Talmitch and Virginia Anderson who preceded him in death along with his brothers Horace C., John
Edward Sr., Frank, and his sister Patricia Ann Williams.
Gus ( The Gentle Giant ) was named after his Uncle Gus Butler who was married to his Mother’s sister
Lina Butler. Gus ( The Gentle Giant ) at a young age showed good character to be honest with high
integrity qualities that help him be the successful entrepreneur he became later in Life. Gus ( The Gentle
Giant ) family moved to Chicago Illinois September 19,1946. Gus ( The Gentle Giant ) gave his life to
christ at a early age at Second Mount Vernon M.B Church under the leadership of Pastor Willie Lee
Anderson, he was baptized at 31st street beach in Lake Michigan. Gus ( The Gentle Giant ) thru-out his
life continued to grow stronger and stronger in the Lord and now he’s absent from the body, and
present with the Lord. Gus ( The Gentle Giant ) attended Douglas Elementary, Dunbar Vocational High
School, and Roosevelt University 1967-1969 where he majored in Sociology, and obtained many trades.
Gus ( The Gentle Giant ) specialities were Interior and Exterior painting. Gus ( The Gentle Giant ) was
drafted in the United States Army January 27, 1964, were he served in the Vietam War stationed in New
York, served in Germany, and acquired a certificate for being a "Sharp Shooter ". Gus ( The Gentle Giant
) returned home and started his own business called South Shore Decorating ( The First Black Owned
Paint Destributor ) for Benjamin Moore, Muralo and other paint companies . Gus( The Gentle Giant )
business expanded to a total of two locations later in Life furnishing homes with window treatments,
and also providing other necessities for the communities. Gus ( The Gentle Giant ) was married in 1967
to this union were born Bryant Augustav , and Stacey Michelle. Gus ( The Gentle Giant ) was a Great
admirable Father, he enjoyed raising his children, he talked about how ( he prepared breakfast ) for
16years. He spoke of taking them to swim classes, and meets always making sure he nurtured them with
Daddy's Love. Gus ( The Gentle Giant) Life was full of Adventure with sports, he was an Bulls & Bears
season ticket holder, Bowling in several Leagues, sharing a team with his Brother Talmitch. Gus ( The
Gentle Giant ) was an Avid Marathon Runner. He ran in 40 or more tournaments staying in Good
physical Shape. Gus ( The Gentle Giant ) was a part of The Real Men Cook, and Loved to Grill.. Gus ( The
Gentle Giant ) also attended The Million Man March October 16,1995 with Nephews & Friends. Gus (
The Gentle Giant ) was a Great counselor to many friends, and Family members.. Gus ( The Gentle Giant
) helped sponsored many sport events including The Pee-wee basketball team, and The Jackie Robinson
Little League Baseball team who both won A-World Championship. Gus ( The Gentle Giant ) was his
“Brother’s Keeper” giving funds to college students funding Ancona Montessori School, Operation Push,
ETA Theater, St.Neri Church, and many many more.Gus ( The Gentle Giant) also was a sponsor of The
Dr.Martin Luther King (SCLC) organization.
Gus ( The Gentle Giant ) met the "Love of his Life" Diane Sanders in 2004. Gus ( The Gentle Giant ) and
Diane Sanders married on October 21,2006. A good happy Blessed union for 15years Gus, and Diane
shared! Gus ( The Gentle Giant ) health changed, and he was admitted in the hospital May 8, 2021, for a
short battle. God called Gus ( The Gentle Giant ) home October 21,2021 at 10:03am. Gus ( The Gentle

Giant ) leaves a legacy of Love, Kindness, Compassionate, Giving, Wisdom, ,Wittiness, Affectionate,
Honest, A Great Mentor, and a Brave Solider..

( Chicago,IL) Brother Talmitch Anderson, Sister Theresia Jackson, and Brother Robert L. Anderson (
Johnnie ) all of (Chicago, IL )Two Grandsons Grant Hayes, and Griffin Gus Garrett both from ( Fulton
M.D). and step grandson Patrick Pleas Shelton Jr ( Chicago, IL) Two God daughters Brittany Harvey (
Lithonia,GA) and Jasariah Laura Shell ( Chicago,IL).. A host of Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces, Great
Nephews, family and friends.
