Obituary for George Coffey

George Mack Coffey was born on February 22, 1944 in Montgomery, Mississippi to the late
Elverste and Roseaner Coffey. He was the 9th of 14 children born to this union. George was a quiet and
calm boy, he loved his family and growing up in the south. George was educated in Eupora, MS. attending
webster county high school. George moved to Chicago, IL in 1965 bringing his soul mate Lillian Givens with
him. They were united in marriage on July 19, 1966. George joined the old ship of Zion missionary Baptist
church on the westside of Chicago.
George and Lillian bought their dream home on Lorel Ave being the 2nd African Americans reciding on that
block. They desperately wanted to start a family however several attempts failed. In 1976 twins were born.
Demeika (Dee) and Tameika Coffey. Seven years later, Toleisa Coffey arrived.
George, was a loving man and a great father. He enjoyed times at home alone with the kids. He also enjoyed
taking them with him whenever he went out.
George was a man of many talents. He was a great cook; he loved to bake and barbeque as well. He painted
vehicles as a profession and made a good living from it.
He loved hosting events at the house and inviting family and friends over.
George opened a resale clothing store with his wife, it stayed open for years. He spent much of his life working
and enjoying family time until his health declined.

 Preceding George in death were both parents, his wife Lillian, 5 brothers and 5 sisters. George leaves to
cherish his memories 3 children, Demeika(Dee) Coffey, Tameika (Ozelle) and Toleisa(Dwayne) Williams all of
Chicago, IL. Six Grandchildren Makyla, Dwayne Jr., Davion, Damarion (twins) Elijah and Taliya. One
brother Willie Dell Coffey of St. Louis, Mo, two sisters, Minnie Coffey of St Louis, MO and Fannie Denton of
Gore Springs, MS. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, a special friend and
honorary member of our family, Joann Soohoo. We thank you for your many years of service.
