Farrie L. Rhodes was born on December 7, 1933 in Parkin, Arkansas. She was the eldest child to Mrs. Viola and Lee Amos Horne. She had a younger brother, Skippy who preceded her in death when he was a toddler.
As a young child, Farrie was a brilliant student. She was an “A” student and was featured with her photo in the Arkansas Newspaper at the age of 12. She enlisted in the United States Navy three days after her 18th birthday in 1951.
It was during this time she married the late Larry L. Johnson and from this union three children were born, Michelle, Giovonna and Rodney Johnson. Farrie remarried James E. Rhodes and to this union two children were born, Ricko and Rhonda Lynn Rhodes.
On Monday, April 19th at 2:20am, Farrie Rhodes made her transition to The Lord from Audie Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio, TX.
Aside from her family, some proud moments in her life included being the first person of color to hold a supervisor position at Alden located in Cicero, IL. She attended Roosevelt University where she received a business degree.
A pivotal moment was when she was introduced to Christ Tabernacle Church by Velma and Otis Laws. Her and James Rhodes joined the church in 1964, where he became Deacon Rhodes and Farrie was the executive church secretary over a span of 33 years.
Farrie served as secretary under the late Rev. Milton Brunson who baptized all her children. She served as the Thompson Community Singers Chord, a Sunday School Teacher, participated in various fundraisers and even a wedding planner.
She enjoyed all the challenges that it brought but most enjoyed her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother.
