Evelyn Mims-Cole, affectionately known as Ree, was born in Utica Mississippi
to the late Gaddis Sr. and Essie Mims on August 17, 1952. She was the eighth of
eleven children. Evelyn accepted Christ at a young age. She attended Utica
Public Schools and went on to Utica Junior College.
Evelyn moved to Chicago in her early twenties, where she was blessed to birth
her beloved best friend & Daughter, Etronya V. Harris.
On December 20, 1986, Evelyn married her love, Ozzie Cole. From their union,
Deonta K. Cole was born. They both preceded her in death.
Evelyn worked for Loyola Hospital, for many years, where she was loved by
many and made countless friendships. She retired in May of 2015.
Evelyn valued friendship and was very family oriented. She loved to gather with
her family and friends, laughing and going down memory lane. All who knew
Evelyn knew how much she loved and cared for her dog, Prince, whom she
treated like a son. She was a loving and devoted grandmother to her
granddaughters and built personal bonds with each of them.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her beautiful memories, her daughter, Etronya V.
Harris; four granddaughters, Chakeria Harris, Areiall Lee, Heavenly Harris, and
Londynn Skye Harris; four sisters, Ernestine Washington of Winter Haven, FL,
Doris Stewart of Chicago, IL, Merle Maddox of Winter Haven, FL, Irene
Hughes(John Frank) of Utica, MS; three brothers, Jessie Mims of Chicago, IL,
Albert AJ Mims(Denise) of Bolingbrook, IL, Fulton Mims(Diane) of Utica, MS, and
a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
