Obituary for Bernice (Verneice) Agee (Conway)

Bernice (Verneice) Conway was born on July 21, 1923 to the union of Major and Nealie Eugene Conway in Shelby, Mississippi. Her mother and father, three sisters, Ruth Conway, Mary Johnson and Ethel Lavelle Ward, four brothers, Willie Conway, Lenard Conway, Major Conway and James Conway, four sister-in-laws, Pauline Conway, O.C. Lee Conway, Katie Mae Conway and Frenetter Conway all proceeded her in death.

Bernice was baptized at an early age and completed her education in the Mississippi Public School System.

Bernice was blessed with seven children. Bernice was united in holy matrimony to James “Bilbo” Agee on February 7, 1948. James preceded her in death. To this union five children were born, Laveria, Linda, Carl, Toni Anita and Dwayne. Laveria, Carl and Dwayne preceded her in death.

Bernice and James moved to Flagstaff, Arizona in 1951. Later they relocated to Chicago, Illinois. Bernice worked odd jobs and after the death of her daughter, Laveria, Bernice cared for her three grandchildren, Lonnell, Terry and Tanika. Bernice was loving and caring and would do anything for her family and others.

Bernice joined Fellowship M.B. Church on May 6, 2005 during a Mother’s Day service. She departed this life on June 27, 2020 at 11:02 pm at home surrounded by family members.

Bernice leaves to cherish her memory: Her children, Lester (Lois) Agee, and Linda (Harvey) Davis of Chicago, Illinois; Leon (Alice) Conway of Bellwood, Illinois; and Toni Anita (Joe) Gray of Bolingbrook, Illinois; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
